Bits of SL Life And Times

Here's a selection of pictures and happenings that didn't make it in earlier, for various reasons.  

 

I posted some about Halloween, but this detailed avie from Kitacelia I thought deserved a mention. 

 

 Quite detailed, I hadn't seen anything like it. The pumpkin added to it. 

 

 This shirt worn by Charlee Harmony was certainly worth a chuckle.

 

 Ever see someone in Second Life whom everything rezzed but their head? I was thinking of both that and a few sci-fi tales in which the brain of a dying supervillain gets transferred to a nutrient jar with this look by Shockwave Yarreach.

In October, I wanted to get a picture of a Belleseria Fairgrounds party, but was in something of a mild hurry, and didn't want to disappoint anyone who wanted a long chat. So I sent one of my alts over, Droppa MaPants. So logging on him, I went to the party location, and greeted the people there.

And so was this latest reaction of people to one of my alts.

 On Sunday November 2 at Noon SL time, I went to the grand opening of something called AI Land, showing artwork done completely by AI. Pooky Amsterdam, who I hadn't chatted with in a while, told me about it. Longtime residents will remember her for "The 1st Question" game show. Since then, she's occasionally been involved with something. And now it was this show about AI. 

 

 Sometimes it's hard to tell when art is done by AI, to me. 

 

 There was certainly quite a light show. 

 

 

 But what I remember the most was seeing Pooky again.

 It's been *years* since I last wrote about wrestling. But on November 17 came another chance to. Merryjest Starchild's been noted for his stage performances and his singing. But that day came a new one: Wrestling. He'd gotten a slot for a "Dark Match" on Monday Nov 17, and invited people to drop by, "come early if you want to see me either succeed or fail spectacularly XD."  It was at United Furry Wrestling. So it was my first time watching a furry wrestling match.

 

 Merryjest put up a good fight against his opponent, him getting in a few body slams.

 

 "Go Merrryyyyyy!"

 

 But sadly for the Cheshire Cat of the stage, it didn't end with a grin. His opponent eventually got the better of him, and after the "one, two, three" was declared the winner. Merryjest's reaction wasn't being dispirited, but exhaustion, "That was kind of nerve wracking, the lag is for real tonight." 

 

As it turned out, Merryjest had good reason not to feel down. Several days later, he announced, "I just got news, I passed my Dark Match and I'm now part of the main roster at UFW O_O" 

 

So it seems Second Life's colorful opera singer will be adding the wrestling ring to his talents.

Then there's this gem from Bellisseria chat. People get alts for all kinds of reasons, but this one is a new one to me.

 And finally, there's the funeral for Crim Mip that I covered in early October. What I should have done was post a few pictures the following week. But I thought that it wouldn't take me long to have the whole thing done. I had forgotten how busy I can be sometimes, especially in October with Burn2, then Halloween. And by the time I've finished writing about those, here comes Christmas.

Interview With Kitacelia on Raising Horses

Hello, everyone. I was lucky to be able to have a very good interview with Kἶէმƈεlἶმ Lմἶղƈօɾἶმlօէε Kεlνმɾl (Kitacelia). I have been buying horses and ponies from her for some time now.  She really does have remarkable horses and ponies. 

 

After the interview started, my first question to her was, "What inspired you to go into horse breeding?" Kitacelia answered, "Well, since I was a little girl, I have always loved horses.  When I was a kid, I was lucky enough to have a few horse riding lessons, and I was in a show. I always wanted to have horses in real life, but my health and finances prevented it."  After a moment's thought, she added, "I should say disabilities and finances.  And it's exciting to see what different coats, breeds, and vanities (are available).

"Breeding animals in general is (interesting) in SL, though I prefer fantasy ones, horses and cats (that's mane and tail you can get."

My next question was, "What's your favorite horse?"  Kitacelia replied, "It's too hard to choose just one.  I don't breed much other than horses anymore as it can become expensive, and the market for them is sometimes pretty low."

I gave her a compliment in saying that she did pretty good at breeding horses.  "I don't really breed Amaretto anymore but I liked the crystal features some had so I bred a few,"  she told me,  "Thank you.  Foxtrot are nice because they don't require food.  Just bundle to breed. Sadly, they are not as detailed and do not move."

I then wondered which horse is the best breed.  "Depends on what you wanted to do," she told me,  "If you want something that is inexpensive and safe, foxtrot. If you wanted something realistic with a lot of options, ABC (Awesome Breed Creations) horses."

The conversation shifted to what to tell someone who is interested in breeding horses. Kitacelia answered, "I would tell them to not expect to make money from it or if they do, not much, especially not at first.  If they want to do it because they enjoy it and are able to take time and have the money to do it, they should."

I then asked her about how she's doing in the horses business. Kitacelia answered, "Well, I sell a few here and there.  You are by far my best customer." I confessed to constantly falling in love with her horses because they're the inspiring type. She told me, "Most people who buy horses either get them to breed them, or they get them for horse shows, which means they want matching manes and tails and feet and rare coats and eyes.  The other reason is for racing which requires very specific short vanities and high racing stats and training. I do not breed horses for racing.  Once in a while, I will by chance get one suitable for it.  But I mostly breed show horses."

I told Kitacelia that she's doing pretty good with the amazing show horses, especially with the Pegasus horses.  "I am glad." she said.  I added that I had one more question.  If I continue to buy horses from her, will she continue to breed horses?  "Of course," she answered. I thanked her because I was so glad that she would continue breeding horses as long as I continue to buy horses from her.

That was it.  I thanked her for the interview. I am forever glad that I can continue to buy horses from her.  Kἶէმƈεlἶმ Lմἶղƈօɾἶმlօէε Kεlνმɾl (kitacelia) really does breed remarkable horses. If anyone is interested in a show horse, I recommend Kitacelia.  She is truly the best in the horses business.

Kitacelia and Raising Horses

I got a chance to interview Kitacelia (Kἶէმƈεlἶმ Lմἶղƈօɾἶმlօէε Kεlνმɾl) for her role in the horse business in Second Life.  Over time, I have gotten some horses from her.  So I felt if there's someone who knows about them in Second Life and can tell others, it's her.

My first question to Kitacelia was how long has she been breeding horses. She answered,  “ABC horses I have bred for about a year and half now.  I bred another type of horse as well but they are less realistic and cost extra to make pets after they are done breeding.”

I was curious about what was her favorite part about having ABC horses, so asked.  “The fact that they are realistic looking horses in size, the different breeds, etc.” Kitacelia answered.

I then asked Kitacalia how much longer she is going to continue in the horses business.  “Hmm well as long as I am able to, and as long as I enjoy it, I suppose,” she replied.

Besides raising horses, Kitacelia spends some time as a club hostess. She works at Club Zero Gravity, the Happy Vixen, and other places, getting the word out about events and greeting people as they enter the club.

Before we ended the interview, I told Kitacelia that she is an inspiration because she raises horses and helps others to get the them. I also told her that I would definitely recommend her business to the others.  I also said that I would also include the landmarks where the others can buy her horses from.

How to Run a Club

There are many ways to run a club. Several have different themes for the club itself, steampunk, country/western, biker, outer space, beach club, fantasy, retro/classic, techno, gothic, heavy metal, punk etc The music  played may or may not match the club style or a contest theme  Some have contests with prizes to bring people in. Boards can be set up in a number of ways, everything from everyone can join and vote, to only group members may join and only those in the contest may vote.  Some clubs have a single board, while different clubs may have two, separated by gender or contest entries, some are even designed so that those who stay for the entire event have more of a chance to win.

It can be winner take all or split so that everyone with a vote gets something. Sometimes there is a fee to enter the contest, which adds to or even makes up the entire prize. Certain clubs welcome all sorts of avatars within reason(nothing insanely huge or that breaks terms of service rules)  Others are limited to say humans, men or women only.

 Some clubs have bars, games, trivia and or exotic dancers to bring guests into their clubs.  Several clubs use hostesses to run contests, promote events, support DJs greet people, give out tags and make conversation with guests. Hosts and DJs may be paid an hourly wage on top of tips in some cases, in others they may work for all tips, where you provide your own tip jar, usually they don't take a cut of tips, in other cases in which they provide the tip jars, a percentage of tips is often given to the owners which can be anything between 10-20 percent of tips.

Other clubs may only have DJs, and rely on the DJ , club manager or even the other to send notices.  Most clubs send 2-3 notices, one a few minutes before the event, one at halftime and occasionally at the start of said event as well.  Sometimes the DJ and/or host is required to promote products/services or nearby shopping.

Some clubs have sploders, which is a kind of gambling allowed in SL.  In some cases they give a little money back to each participant.    Many clubs prevent currently working staff from entering the contests.  In some cases the host and greeter are separate jobs, the greeter is basically just that, says hello, welcome to the club etc and possibly gives out group invites/tags.      

Some clubs have a bar tender who both roleplays and uses bar props to simulate a real life bar style experience.   As far as applications they can be anything from name, times available and one or two basic questions to a few pages, describing a number of hypothetical scenarios.

An example of a particularly poorly run club, is one where they spam members with notices every 20 minutes.  As well as not removing old staff who do not actively work there.   Gesturbating by guests is tolerated.    There is no set schedule.   Hosts are expected to promote the radio, with no contest, in a club that lacks, games, a bar, and other forms of amusement to draw in guests.  Staff is required to put up their own money for contests, and even when the contest is paid for they may have to front the money as it is not given to them in a timely fashion. Come as you are is a common theme and being naked always qualifies.  This results in many people bringing in alts, who vote for each other, knowing they will win something with any votes, who stand there unresponsive for most of the event.

While I don't pretend to be an expert on this subject, this is based on what I have observed/ experienced over the last almost year, working in clubs and being a guest at various clubs.
